Belarus name Fed Cup team

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) - Belarus have named a Fed Cup team of Aleksandra Sasnovich (world number 108), Arina Sobolenko (129), Olga Govortsova (190) and Vera Lapko (264) for the tie against Switzerland, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Tennis Federation.

Belarus will host Switzerland at Chizhovka Arena for it Fed Cup World Group Semifinal on 22-23 April.

Former world number one and current world number eight in the doubles Martina Hingis was named in Switzerland's squad, alongside with Timea Bacsinszky (22), Viktorija Golubic (54) and Belinda Bencic (130).

The opening ceremony on 22 April will be followed by two singles rubbers. On 23 April the teams will hold another two singles rubbers and one doubles rubber.

The Belarusian national tennis team is currently 5th in the ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking. In 2016 Eduard Dubrov's team beat Canada 3-2 in the first-round World Group II tie and, then, reached the World Group playoff after seeing off Russia 3-2. Belarus set up the forthcoming tie with a 4-1 victory over the Netherlands in February 2017.

Switzerland, Belarus' rivals in the Fed Cup World Group semifinal, goes 4th in the ranking. The teams faced each other on the Fed Cup court three times before, with Switzerland leading 2-1. Last year Switzerland lost to the Czech Republic in the Fed Cup semifinal.
