Belarus lose to France in final 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – Belarus lost 1-2 to France in the final 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier. France topped Group A to earn a place at next summer's FIFA World Cup in Russia, BelTA has learned.

Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Soon after, Olivier Giroud capitalized on Stanislav Dragun's mistake for 2-0. The Belarusians replied with a goal from Anton Saroka in the 43rd minute of the game.

Sweden placed second in Group A after a 0-2 loss in Amsterdam. Bulgaria drew 1-1 at Luxembourg.

The final Group A standings are as follows: France – 23 points, Sweden – 19, Netherlands – 19, Bulgaria – 13, Luxembourg – 6, Belarus – 5.
