Belarus learns UEFA Nations League fate

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – Belarus will face San Marino, Moldova, and Luxembourg in League D Pot 2 in the inaugural UEFA Nations League. The draw took place in Lausanne, Switzerland on 24 January, BelTA informs.

Alexander Gleb, a famous Belarusian football-player, was among the draw ceremony participants. He helped split the rest of the lower-tier teams into another groups.

Group 1: Andorra, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Georgia.

Group 3: Kosovo, Malta, Azerbaijan, Faroe Islands.

Group 4: Macedonia, Armenia, Gibraltar, Liechtenstein.

The group stage will take place from 6 September 2018 to November 2019. The four group winners will then compete in a play-off to determine the overall Nations League champion and the composition of the draw pots for the European Championship.

All in all, the inaugural Nations League will see the national teams of UEFA's 55 member associations.

A new initiative spearheaded by UEFA, the Nations League will replace friendly internationals have not been very popular among the fans lately. Now lower-ranking teams have an additional motivation to make it to the European Championship.
