Belarus blank Germany at 2018 Men's Junior European Volleyball Championship

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – Belarus secured a confident 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-23) win over Germany at the ongoing 2018 Men's Junior European Volleyball Championship in the Netherlands, BelTA has learned.

The first set was very balanced with Linus Weber being on fire for Germany and Belarus responding with a variety of solutions in offence to grab the 25-23 win with a rifle shot through the middle. The Germans could not cope with the deadly serving of their opponents in the second set which ended in 25-14 in Belarus' favor. Germany built on a 22-19 lead in the third, before the Belarusians produced a comeback to win the game. Vladislav Davyskiba was named the top scorer for the winning team with 16 points.

Elsewhere, the Czech Republic beat Finland 3-1 to top Group I. At the start of the tournament Belarus lost to Finland 0-3 and then defeated Portugal 3-0.

Team standings are as follows: 1. Czech Republic – 7 points, 2. Belarus – 6, 3. Germany – 5, 4. Netherlands – 3, 5. Finland – 3, 6. Portugal – 0.

Belarus will next play the Czech Republic on 18 July and the Netherlands on 19 July. Two best teams will advance to the semifinal to face two best teams from Group II that features Russia, Poland, France, Turkey, Italy and Belgium.

Belarus ranked 11th at the Men's Junior European Volleyball Championship in 2016.
