Belarus attends ISF Gymnasiade 2018 opening in Morocco

MARRAKESH, 4 May (BelTA) – The 17th Gymnasiade opened in Marrakesh, Morocco on 3 May. The Belarusian students took part in the opening parade of the participating states, BelTA informs.

Head of the Belarusian sports delegation, Director of the National Center of Physical Education and Sports of School and University Students Vitaly Strigelsky emphasized the importance of taking part in the sports forum of such a big scale. “We are taking part in the Summer Gymnasiade for the third time. At first it was in Brazil in 2013 and then in Turkey in 2016. We have so far won 14 medals, including eight gold medals. Today, the Belarusian national team is ready to show great results,” he said.

The opening ceremony was held at the stadium of Marrakesh. Taking part in it were athletes from 59 countries. Belarus will field 42 students to compete in seven sports: fencing, wrestling, athletics, tennis, box, rhythmic gymnastics and swimming.

The 2018 Gymnasiade will be taking place in Marrakesh and Casablanca, Morocco from 3 to 9 May. The program includes 18 sports: archery, athletics, chess, fencing, rhythmic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, aerobics, judo, karate, swimming, tennis, wrestling, box, cycling, golf, petanque, surfing, taekwondo.
