Badminton winners at Minsk European Games to get highest world ranking points

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) - Winners of the badminton competitions at the Second European Games in Minsk will get the highest world ranking points, BelTA learned from the European Badminton Federation.

The winner of the 2019 European Games will therefore get 7.000 points (which will be included in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games qualification campaign). On 6-9 September 2018 Belarus will be hosting a Circuit tournament for the first time – a Future Series tournament which will serve as test event for the European Games. The event will played in the same venue chosen for badminton at the 2019 European Games – the Falcon Club in Minsk.

“It's very good news for the players as the badminton tournament at the European Games is included into the official BWF ranking. I think that it's a very good decision and I'm looking forward to being able to play it and hopefully get a medal for France,” French player Ronan Labar said.

The badminton competitions at the Second European Games will be held on 24-30 June 2019. In total 160 players will qualify for the event.
