Australia, Belgium, France, Serbia into Davis Cup semis

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – All the teams of the Davis Cup semifinal stage that will compete for World Group playoff have been made known, BelTA has learned.

France beat the UK 4-1 in one of the quarterfinals in Rouen. In the semifinal France will face Serbia that secured a confident win over Spain in Belgrade 4-1.

In the two other quarterfinals, Belgium was too strong for Italy, 3-2, while Australia edged the United States 3-2. The semifinal matches will be held on 15-17 September. The finals are scheduled for 24-26 November.

Belarus reached the World Group playoffs after beating Austria 3-2 in the second round of the 2017 Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group I. Belarus will learn its rival after a draw ceremony scheduled for 11 April. In the contention for the spot in the elite division Vladimir Voltchkov's team may face one of the 2017 World Group first-round runners-up: Argentina, Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, Croatia or Russia. Reaching the playoffs apart from Belarus were also teams of Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, India, and Kazakhstan.
