Museums of Brest Fortress, Sevastopol exchange expositions

BREST, 21 June (BelTA) – The Brest Fortress Defense Museum is opening an exposition Immortal City of Our Glory from the collections of the State Museum of the Heroic Defense and Liberation of Sevastopol, BelTA learned from the head of the science and expositions department of the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex Yelena Mityukova.

The exposition is dedicated to the defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942 and features over 50 large-size photos. They depict military action in the Sevastopol area during the Great Patriotic War and those who took part in it, including air force officers, navy sailors, infantrymen and civilians. Part of the exposition is dedicated to the city of Sevastopol. The audience will be able to see how Sevastopol looked like when it was liberated in 1944 and how it looks like now.

The exposition Immortal City of Our Glory will be on display till 30 September.

On 22 June Sevastopol will open a photo documentary exhibition featuring collections of the Brest Fortress Defense Museum. The travelling exposition Brest Fortress. Roads of Memory consists of over 270 photos and documents. This exposition covers the entire 180-year history of the Brest Fortress, from the time it was built up till now. However, the centerpiece of the exposition is the defense of the fortress during the Great Patriotic War.

“We have undertaken this project in the run-up to the Day of Memory and Sorrow. I hope this is not the last joint project. In June 1941 Brest, just like Sevastopol, bore the brunt of the enemy attack. Not only did they withstand the attack, but also demonstrated outstanding courage and perseverance, and for that they were awarded the titles of the Hero City and the Hero Fortress,” Yelena Mityukova said.

These days the Belgorod Diorama Museum of the Battle of Kursk and the Belgorod Offensive is displaying a large-scale exposition Brest Fortress. Citadel of Memory. The exposition features authentic documents, personal belongings of the defenders, and items found during archeological digs. Apart from that, Smolensk opened a travelling exposition from the collections of the Brest Fortress Defense Museum on 25 May. The exposition will be on display till 10 July.
