ITU to help improve e-literacy of people with disabilities in Belarus

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Belarus will implement a project to improve the Internet literacy of people with disabilities with the assistance of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Belarusian Communications and Information Technology Minister Sergei Popkov said during a press conference hosted by the BelTA website on 12 May.

“Belarus actively cooperates with the International Telecommunication Union. One of our agreements is to implement a project to ensure equal access to the Internet for people with disabilities and improve their digital literacy. The project will be carried out by Belarusian State Academy of Telecommunications,” Sergei Popkov specified.

Besides, Belarus has plans to take part in a number of international events organized by the International Telecommunication Union in 2016. For instance, the country will participate in an international expo on broadband Internet access to be held in Thailand in autumn. Belarusian specialists will also attend ITU's plenary sessions.

“Belarus presents itself as an active player on the market of telecommunications. The ITU's Secretary-General noted that we have something to show to other countries, so we have plans to further develop our cooperation within the framework of this organization,” Sergei Popkov said.
