Gomel Oblast Days in Moscow hailed as momentous event

GOMEL, 28 September (BelTA) – The organization of Gomel Oblast Days in Moscow is an important event for trade and economic relations between the Belarusian region and the Russian metropolis. The statement was made by Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik during the event's opening ceremony in Moscow on 28 September, the press service of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee told BelTA.

Gomel Oblast and Moscow have maintained mutually beneficial business relations for a long time. The historical findings in possession of the Gomel Oblast local lore museum testify that virtually 35% of all the trade cargoes have been coming to Gomel from Moscow for the last 300 years. At present Russia's share in Gomel Oblast's foreign trade is close to 60%, with Moscow and the oblast high on the list of trade partners among Russian regions. “Today's event is supposed to advance trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural, and social ties to a new level,” noted Vladimir Dvornik.

The Gomel Oblast Days are taking place in the Business and Cultural Complex of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia. Over 200 guests from various regions of the Russian Federation and other countries turned up for the plenary session. A number of bilateral documents with a view to advancing cooperation were signed as a result. In particular, agreements on cooperation were signed between the Gomel branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the business cooperation facilitation company Business Geometry Group, between the free economic zone Gomel-Raton and the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, between the Gomel technopark and the Strogino technopark.

A demonstration of Gomel Oblast's industrial potential was arranged. Food products made Gomel Oblast enterprises were available for sampling. Workshops on arts and crafts were open. A concert is scheduled to take part in the evening.
