EU, Eastern Partnership countries to advance cooperation in cybersecurity

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – The European Union will advance cooperation in the area of cybersecurity with Eastern Partnership Initiative countries. The information was released by European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel during another round of the Eastern Partnership informal ministerial dialogue in Minsk on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

Mariya Gabriel said: “Cybersecurity is one of the key parts of our strategy on developing digital markets because we know that cybercrimes know no borders today and it is important to invest our human resources and experience in building sustainability.”

The European commissioner reminded that the European Union had adopted a cybercrime prevention directive. In September 2017 suggestions were made to create a cyber security agency where the relevant specialists will work and financial resources will be made available.

Mariya Gabriel added: “During today's discussion representatives of the Eastern Partnership Initiative countries also underlined the need to further step up cooperation because we say that cybercrimes recognize no borders and nobody can battle these problems on their own. This is why we discussed further cooperation and tasks as well as what benefits we can extract from the experience various countries have accumulated, what investments we can make.”

In her words, the European Union is intent on tight cooperation with Eastern Partnership Initiative countries in various areas in order to unlock the potential in the area of digital transformation of the economy and the society.
