Belarusian, Polish customs services ready to handle increased traffic during holiday season

MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – The customs services of Belarus and Poland are ready to respond to increased vehicle traffic in anticipation of the New Year celebration, the press service of the State Customs Committee of Belarus told BelTA after a working meeting of representatives of the Grodno Oblast branch of the Belarusian customs service and the Customs Chamber in Bialystok.

The negotiations of representatives of the Belarusian and Polish customs services focused on ways to accelerate the border crossing procedure, which is particularly important in the run-up to the New Year celebration. Both sides expressed readiness to take measures if the vehicle traffic increases.

The sides also discussed routine cooperation as part of the work to fight illegal trade in narcotic substances and psychotropic substances and their smuggling across the border.

The State Customs Committee of Belarus told BelTA that in January-November 2016 nearly 390,000 trucks, over 1 million cars, and 32,000 buses crossed the Belarusian-Polish border via the customs clearance checkpoints Bruzgi-2 and Berestovitsa-2.
