Belarus wants access to database of International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information

MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarus has plans to get access to the database of sci-tech information of the International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI), Chairman of the Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives of the ICSTI, First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian State Science and Technology Committee Andrei Kosovsky said on 19 September during the 69th session of the committee in Minsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian State Science and Technology Committee.

The majority of materials on science and technology, research and methodology issued in Belarus is available in paper and electronically. There are plans to consider Belarus' integration into the global information space by switching from paper to electronic publications of research papers and to discuss the inclusion of materials into international databases coordinated by the ICSTI, Andrei Kosovsky said.

ICSTI Director General Evgeny Ugrinovich noted that the organization seeks to improve international communication in science and education across all areas of natural sciences and humanities, to facilitate cross-border scientific, technological and innovative cooperation between the member states. He informed that in the near future the ICSTI is set to sign a sci-tech cooperation agreement with UNESCO.

Taking part in the Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives, the ICSTI highest governing body, are over 50 people from ten countries. They are to discuss the development of national systems of sci-tech information and information technologies, and the current activities of the organization, including the adoption of the revised version of the provisions on the academic council.

Founded in 1969, the International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information is an international organization comprising 22 countries. Belarus joined this organization in 1993.
