Belarus' MFA to host seminar on child protection

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) – The international seminar “Child protection institutions: Best international practices” will take place in the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 27 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.

The event will be dedicated to child protection in the context of the implementation of the National Human Rights Action Plan adopted by Belarus' government in October 2016. The seminar is co-organized by the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UNICEF Office in Belarus.

"The speakers will include international experts of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Council of Europe, the EU, and children's ombudsmen from the UK, Greece, Island, Ireland, Moldova, Russia, and Finland,” the press service noted.

The seminar will bring together Belarusian MPs, officials, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, academics, young MPs, and diplomats.

“The seminar is designed to develop the international cooperation in child protection and improve the understanding of matters related to setting the institutional framework for child protection and the ombudsman institution,” the ministry added.
