Belarus Interior Minister unveils plans regarding readmission agreements

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian side has prepared or is drafting readmission agreements with Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, India, China and Armenia, Belarusian Interior Minister Igor Shunevich said at a session of the Council of the Republic on 21 April, BelTA has learned.

“Today we have readmission agreements with Russia, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. Draft agreements with Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, India, China and Armenia have been or are being elaborated,” Igor Shunevich noted.

On 21 April, the Belarusian Interior Minister delivered a report on the draft law on ratification of the readmission agreement with Georgia and a protocol to the agreement as he attended a session of the Council of the Republic. The document was approved. “The Belarusian Interior Ministry expects that a considerable number of foreign nationals, including Georgian citizens, will enter or leave the country annually during the period of implementation of the agreement. The Interior Ministry will bear the financial burden of its implementation. The agreement will not entail additional budgetary expenses,” Igor Shunevich added.

He noted that as many as 256 Georgian citizens were deported from Belarus in 2015, including 63 deported forcibly. “There was a slight increase of around 4% from 2014,” the Belarusian Interior Minister said.

The readmission agreement between Belarus and Georgia was signed in Tbilisi on 23 April 2015.
