Lukashenko in favor of new work style in agriculture

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko spoke in favor of new approaches in agriculture during the national seminar held on 3 April to discuss rural development and ways to enhance the efficiency of the country's agrarian sector, BelTA has learned.

“Change your work style and adapt to the new times and staff. You need to teach and show how to work in a way that brings benefit,” Alexander Lukashenko underlined.

Ahead of the sowing and harvest campaigns, relevant specialists should be studying at the local level rather than in Minsk or at nationwide events, he stressed. “If the governor thinks he has to upgrade someone's skills, let them study the topic ‘on the spot',” the head of state remarked.

Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats agreed that today the rural areas have a need for qualitatively different development. First of all, they need higher efficiency that would give a competitive edge to the products and help them gain a foothold in the global market.

According to the minister, several factors have been slowing down the agricultural development, including some gaps in arable farming, which complicate forage conservation. As for animal husbandry, the efficiency of dairy farms has to be increased. There have also been cases of irresponsible operation of agricultural vehicles. As for the financial recovery of agricultural companies, there is the necessary legal framework in place, and proper management is what matters now.

Agricultural companies must do their best to make every crop bring profit in 2018, the minister added. “In the current conditions, Belarus has such opportunities,” Leonid Zayats believes.
