MINSK, 9 May( (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko compared the migration processes in Europe and Belarus when answering the questions of journalists, BelTA has learned.
“What is important is the reasons why people come and from where. Ukrainians came to Belarus. They came because we destroyed their homes? No. They came to save their families. They ran from the destruction in eastern Ukraine. They came to us for salvation and we, as human beings, should help them. These are their reasons,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
Migrants from the Middle East flock to Western countries for different reasons. “What is happening in the Middle East? They, including the Europeans, came there. Remember this Arab arc? They started with Tunisia, which was a beautiful country, a holiday spot. Why did they turn the country upside down?” the president asked a rhetoric question. “They bombed, destroyed. They brought ‘democracy' there,” he said.
The conflicts also broke out in Libya, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan. Many cities were razed to the ground; local people, including women and children, were killed. These events have contributed to the development of terrorism. “Thus they flocked to Europe: some with revenge on their minds, others to find jobs,” said Alexander Lukashenko. “How they welcomed them? With reservations, separate settlements. Thus the migrants created their own enclaves there, with certain sentiments on their minds.”
“This is the difference between us and other countries. Migrants come to them in search of, at least, a piece of bread, let alone happiness,” the Belarusian leader said. “You need to be more caring, kinder to people. Then you will get kindness in return,” he added.
