Information from Belarusian intelligence agencies helps prevent terrorist attacks in Belarus, abroad

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – Information shared by Belarusian intelligence services has helped suppress attempts to stage terrorist attacks in Belarus and abroad. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement during the solemn event held on 15 December to mark the 100th anniversary since the establishment of state security agencies in the country, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said: “I should note that many modern threats can be overcome only through joint efforts. Belarus' KGB promotes practical interaction with the relevant agencies of dozens of countries, primarily with Russia, ex-USSR republics, and other countries across the globe. The high level of partnership allows successfully arranging joint events. Information shared by our officers has helped prevent a number of attempts to stage terrorist attacks in Russia, some European countries and in Belarus.”

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that the geography and the intensity of contacts between intelligence agencies grow larger. The fact indicates that the global community recognizes Belarus' important role in ensuring regional security and, in some cases, global security.

“Today our intelligence agencies face new tasks. War on terrorism is one of the key ones. The world resembles a troubled ant heap. Throngs of refugees cross borders while fanatics, who are ready to kill civilians and sow chaos, hide among them. Members of international terrorist organizations are regularly extracted from the transit traffic in Belarus,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

“Illegal arms trade spreads fast all over the world. Unfortunately, we are not secured against it. We have to be vigilant as much as possible to prevent these weapons from penetrating our borders,” added Alexander Lukashenko.
