Contact group on Ukraine in Minsk agrees POW intention verification mechanism

MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) – The trilateral contact group on Ukraine has agreed the mechanism for verifying desires of prisoners of war in Donbass, BelTA learned from the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik on 26 April.

Humanitarian affairs were high on the agenda of the discussions held in Minsk on 26 April. “Once again the discussion focused on releasing the people, who are being held due to the conflict,” said Martin Sajdik. In his words, creating a mechanism to verify whether the prisoners of war want to stay where they are after they are released is an important task in this context.

“I am glad that today the sides have been able to agree the procedural matters. The mechanism should start working soon,” noted Martin Sajdik.
