Belarus' embassy in Poland submits official request over attack on Belarusians in Goldap

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Embassy in Poland has sent an official request to provide the information on the attack on Belarusian citizens in the Polish town of Goldap, Dmitry Mironchik, head of the information and digital diplomacy office, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told BelTA.

“Any criminal offence against our citizens is unacceptable. The offences motivated by the bias based on national origin or language are doubly unacceptable. Our embassy in Warsaw has already submitted the official requests to the prosecutor's offices in Suwalki and Sejny over this incident,” Dmitry Mironchik said.

In his words, the situation will be carefully monitored. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes for the consistency and principled stance of the Polish law enforcement bodies investigating the case.

According to the media reports, several Belarusian citizens have been beaten by locals. The alleged reason for the assault was that the Belarusians spoke to each other in Russian.
