RIO DE JANEIRO, 22 August (BelTA) – The 31st Summer Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro have come to an end with a spectacular closing ceremony at the Maracana Stadium.
The closing ceremony experienced periods of rain that poured down on the three thousands of athletes who took part in the traditional parade. 2016 Olympic silver medalist Ivan Tikhon carried the flag of the Belarusian national team.
Belarus finished the 2016 Rio Games with a total of nine medals. Vladislav Goncharov claimed the Olympic champion title with gold in trampolining. Silver medals were awarded to weightlifters Darya Naumova and Vadim Streltsov, Maria Mamoshuk (wrestling), and Ivan Tikhon (athletics). Bronze medals were won by wrestlers Javid Hamzatov and Ibragim Saidov, swimmer Aleksandra Gerasimenya and K4 team of Margarita Makhneva, Nadezhda Lepeshko, Olga Khudenko and Marina Litvinchuk.
Tokyo will play host to the 2020 Summer Olympics.
