Easter celebrations were held in Svobody Square (Freedom Square) in Minsk on 5 May. This year the Minsk Holy Spirit Cathedral decided to revive the tradition and celebrate the resurrection of Christ in the central square of the city by organizing the festival “Easter in Sobornaya Square”.
The name was chosen on purpose. Prior to 1917 Svobody Square was called Sobornaya (Cathedral Square) as it was located in front of Sts Peter and Pavel Cathedral which was blown up in 1936.
The concert program featured both music and dance. Participants of the holiday turned Svobody Square into a big dance floor.
