Belarus, Russia's Novosibirsk Oblast sign memorandum on cooperation in forestry

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) –Belarus' Forestry Ministry and the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry of Novosibirsk Oblast of Russia signed a memorandum on cooperation in forestry, BelTA learned from the press service of Belarus Forestry Ministry.

During the visit of the Novosibirsk delegation to Belarus, Belarus Forestry Minister Vitaly Drozhzha met with Novosibirsk Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Andrei Danilenko to discuss cooperation in the reproduction of forests, wood logging and processing, multi-purpose use of forest resources.

Belarus First Deputy Forestry Minister Valentin Shatravko informed the Russian colleagues about the forest management system in the country, animal farming, and prospects for wood processing and production of wood chips. The delegation was keenly interested in sales markets for that fuel resource. In 2018, Belarus exported some 1.9 million cubic meters of chips, mainly to Baltic countries and Poland. From those countries Belarusian fuel chips made their way to Scandinavia - Sweden, Denmark, Valentin Shatravko noted. Therefore, the Forestry Ministry is currently considering concluding direct supply contracts with these countries.

The Russian delegation also visited Logoisk forestry, Belgosles forestry enterprise, the Belarusian national forest selection and seed center, and Belarusian mechanical engineering company Amkodor.
