Women's football championship to kick off in Belarus on 16 April

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – The Minsk House of Football hosted a draw ceremony for the 2020 Belarusian Women's Football Championship which is to kick off on 16 April, BelTA has learned.

FC Minsk, the reigning champion and Belarus Cup and Super Cup winner, will open the championship against FC Dnepr Mogilev. FC Zorka BDU, the 2019 silver medalist, will face the team of the Brest Oblast Olympic Center. FC Neman Grodno, the 2019 bronze medalist, will take on FC Bobruichanka. FC Dinamo BGUFK will play the U19 Belarusian national team.

The 29th edition of the Belarusian women's football championship will be divided into three tours and will last through 8 November.

FC Minsk has been champion for the last seven years. FC Bobruichanka is the most titled team in the country after winning gold medals 12 times. Among the belarusian champions were FC Universitet Vitebsk (six times), FC Nadezhda Mogilev (two times) and FC Viktoria Brest (once).

At the same time the training camp of the Belarusian national women's football team slated for early April has been calceled following the UEFA decision to postpone all continental tournaments until further notice. On 14 April Belarus had to play the Women's EURO 2021 qualifier against Northern Ireland in Minsk. In Group C Belarus secured a 6-0 win against Faroe Islands in Borisov and lost 1-7 to Norway and 0-1 to Wales. The Group C standings are as follows: Norway – 12 points (four matches), Wales – 8 (4), Belarus – 3 (3), Northern Ireland – 2 (4), Faroe Islands – 0 (3).
