TOKYO, 23 July (BelTA) - The Games of the XXXII Olympiad began with the opening ceremony at the National Stadium of the Japanese capital, BelTA has learned.
Swimmer Mikita Tsmyh and archer Hanna Marusava will carry the flag for Team Belarus. The team captain is the famous hammer thrower Ivan Tsikhan. Team Belarus includes 108 athletes who will compete in 20 sports. Belarus will take part in the Summer Olympic Games for the seventh time. Since 1996 Atlanta Games Belarus has won 78 (12 gold, 27 silver and 39 bronze) medals.
About 12,500 athletes from more than 200 countries will take part in the Games. The 2020 Tokyo will include 339 medal events across 33 sports. The Games closing ceremony is scheduled for 8 August.
