Olympic cauldron lit during Tokyo Olympic Games opening ceremony

TOKYO, 23 July (BelTA) – Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka lit the Olympic flame during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, BelTA has learned.

The Olympic torch relay wrapped up on 23 July. For 121 days, around 10,000 torch bearers traveled more than 2,000km. Japanese sport stars and frontline healthcare workers carried the Olympic torch, designed in the shape of a cherry blossom, through the Olympic stadium that was built from scratch for the Games.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka of Japan, a four-time Grand Slam champion, had the honor of serving as the final torchbearer, lighting the Olympic cauldron.
