Govortsova secures French Open qualifying win

MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 138 Olga Govortsova kicked off action in the French Open qualifying with a 6-3, 6-3 win over world number 228 Han Na-lae of South Korea, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next face Croatia's world number 205 Jana Fett.

In the men's singles event Belarus' world number 89 Ilya Ivashka lost to Russia's world number 448 Andrei Kuznetsov 4-6, 6-7 (1-7).

Athletes need to go through a three-match qualifying stage to reach the French Open main draw.

Belarusian players Egor Gerasimov (World No.78), Aryna Sabalenka (4), Victoria Azarenka (16), and Aliaksandra Sasnovich (103) will start their French Open campaign in the main draw.

The main draw will run from 30 May to 13 June.

The total prize money at Roland Garros for 2021 comes in at €34.3 million. The winner in Paris men's and women's singles will receive €1.4 million each.
