Gerasimov, Ivashka one match away from US Open main draw

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – Two Belarusian players are on a verge of qualifying for the final Grand Slam event of the year, BelTA has learned.

Belarus' world number 129 Egor Gerasimov fought past World No. 174 Mitchell Krueger of the United States 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to move into the third and final round of US Open qualifying. In the opener the Belarusian defeated World No.545 Stefan Kozlov of the United States 6-4, 6-4. Egor Gerasimov will next face World No.150 Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic.

Belarus' Ilya Ivashka, No. 143 in the ATP Rankings, overpowered Belgium's world number 181 Ruben Bemelmans 6-4, 6-3 in the second qualifying round. In the opener the Belarusian powered through Germany's world number 169 Mats Moraing 6-3, 6-0. Ilya Ivashka will next take on Poland's world number 94 Kamil Majchrzak.

The competitions will be running in New York from 26 August through 8 September.
