FIDE allows Belarusians to compete in youth team events

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) - The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has decided to allow the participation of Belarusian and Russian athletes in the youth (under 18) competitions and events in a neutral status, BelTA learned from the FIDE press service.

“This decision echoes FIDE’s commitment to balancing inclusivity with responsibility. We discussed this carefully, checked with the IOC, received their clear guidance and support, and ensured our approach respects both humanitarian considerations and the principles of international sport,” FIDE Deputy President Viswanathan Anand said.

In addition, FIDE allowed chess players from Belarus and Russia with disabilities to participate in team competitions in a neutral status.
