Belarus’ Sasnovich loses in Linz Open round one

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 115 Aliaksandra Sasnovich failed to advance to the second round of the 2026 Upper Austria Ladies Linz, BelTA has learned.

In the round of Last 32, the Belarusian lost to world number 258 Karolína Plíšková of the Czech Republic, 4-6, 4-6. During the match, Sasnovich served only three aces and committed seven double faults on her serve, while her opponent recorded 16 aces. In the match for the quarterfinal spot, Plíšková will face world No. 13 Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia. Aliaksandra Sasnovich had made it to the main draw through qualifying, defeating Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina and Czech Linda Fruhvirtová without dropping a single set. In the doubles round of 16, Belarus’ Iryna Shymanovich and Russia’s Maria Kozyreva will take on the Russian-Japanese pair of Liudmila Samsonova and Miyu Kato.

In the first round of the 2026 ATP Challenger Wuning, Belarus’ world number 732 Daniil Ostapenkov defeated China’s world number 928 Qian Sun in two sets, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. In the Round of 16, he will face world number 221 Ilya Simakin of Russia. In the first round of doubles, the Belarusian pair of Daniil Ostapenkov and Sergey Betov will take on the Japanese duo of Naoki Tajima and Kaichi Uchida.

The events in Austria and China will conclude on 12 April.
