MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) –The Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry and the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation signed a cooperation program for 2023-2024 during a joint board meeting in Smolensk, Russia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Sport and Tourism Ministry.
The parties reviewed the status of the calendar plan for joint sports events and a program to harmonize cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the field of physical education and sport. Following the joint meeting, the ministries signed a program of cooperation in the field of physical education and sport for 2023-2024.
"In the face of restrictions from international organizations, we managed to attract a large number of athletes from many countries to participate in competitions on the territory of the Union State. Russia and Belarus have extensive experience in holding all kinds of sports and business events. With interaction between the ministries well established, we propose to focus on interregional ties. There is a proposal to hold the second CIS Games in an open format. Mongolia and Cuba have already expressed their desire to take part in the event,» Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said.
"As a neighboring region, close to Belarusians in spirit and family ties, Smolensk Oblast often hosts important joint events. Smolensk Oblast maintains long-standing ties with Belarusian regions, now at the municipal level too. Smolensk and Belarusian athletes, within the framework of regular mutual exchange, participate in various competitions, which are held both in the territory of our region and regions in Belarus," Governor of Smolensk Oblast Aleksei Ostrovsky added.
