Belarus' NOC pledges further support to national sports medicine

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) - The National Olympic Committee of Belarus is ready to continue supporting the development of sports medicine in the country, NOC President Viktor Lukashenko said at the opening ceremony of the international science conference “Tokyo Olympics: 100 Days to Go”, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to note that the NOC of Belarus is ready for further cooperation and support of sports medicine in the country. Today elite sport is, in fact, not about a competition between athletes but a competition of training technologies. Sports medicine, being an integral part of training for any athlete, is designed to solve a number of specific tasks. The success of an individual athlete is the comprehensive effort of not only a coach, a sports functionary, but also a specialist responsible for the most important thing in our lives - health. The highest award, of course, will be the athlete's good performance at international competitions and, first of all, at the Olympic Games,” said Viktor Lukashenko.

The international science conference “Tokyo Olympics: 100 Days to Go” is running in the Belarusian capital on 15-16 April. The event is set to explore major avenues of scientific, methodological and medical support of athletes' preparation for the Olympic Games, to facilitate international exchange of knowledge between scientists, experts and representatives of the sports community.

The conference is organized by the NOC of Belarus, the Sport and Tourism Ministry, the National Research Center for Sports, the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture in cooperation with the National Anti-Doping Agency, the Presidential Sport Club, and the Belarusian Sports Medicine Association.
