Belarus’ Navitskaya crowned world youth sambo champion

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes claimed three medals on the first day of the 2025 World Youth and Junior Sambo Championships in Indonesia, BelTA has learned.

Six Belarusian athletes competed on Friday, 3 October, with three of them making the podium. Darya Navitskaya claimed victory in the women’s youth -65kg category. The Belarusian beat Italy’s Martina Vitale in the quarterfinals, advanced past Romania’s Anamaria Rus in the semi-finals, and outperformed Russia’s Vladislava Kerimova for the gold.

Belarusian sambists also secured two silver medals on 3 October. Palina Lukyanchuk (U18) reached the final in the women’s +80 kg category by defeating Georgia’s Mariami Gabitashvili, but settled for silver after losing to Russia’s Iana Shevtsova. Meanwhile, in the men’s U20 +98 kg category, Arseni Malitski began with wins against Zviad Zviadauri from Georgia and Arsen Hayrapetyan from Armenia before Russia’s Roman Zhdanov ended his gold medal hopes in the final.

Herald Krasouski (U18, -71 kg) and Hanna Artsiomava (U18, -50 kg) exited in the quarterfinals, with Ivan Siamionau (U20, -79 kg) losing in the opening round. Five medals will be at stake for Belarus on both Saturday and Sunday.

The world youth and junior championships gathered 370 athletes from 34 countries in Indonesia.
