Belarus’ Fedzkovich finishes tenth in 10km interval start classic at Paralympics

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Belarusian cross-country skier Darya Fedzkovich finished in the top ten in the 10km interval start classic race at the XIV Winter Paralympic Games in Italy, BelTA has learned.

Competing in the women’s LW2-LW9 categories (standing athletes with limb impairments), Fedzkovich covered the distance in 40 minutes and 20.6 seconds to round out the top ten. The top three finishers were Sydney Peterson (USA), Vilde Nilsen (Norway), and Brittany Hudak (Canada). Four years ago at the World Championships, the Belarusian finished ninth in this discipline. The day before, Darya took 14th place in the sprint.

Also on 11 March, the women’s 10km interval start classic race in the LW10-LW12 categories (sitting athletes) took place, with Belarusian Lidziya Loban finishing 11th with a time of 30 minutes and 7.9 seconds. Her compatriot Valiantsina Biryla finished 14th (30:53.1) among 19 participants. Oksana Masters and Kendall Gretsch of the USA claimed gold and bronze meadals, with Kim Yunji of the Republic of Korea placing between the two Americans.

In total, the XIV Paralympic Winter Games have brought together more than 600 athletes from 55 countries in Italy. On March 10, Raman Svirydzenka (LW2-LW9) brought the Belarusian team its first medal, winning gold in the classic sprint. Relay races are scheduled for 14 March, and individual 20 km freestyle races will take place on the final day of the Paralympics, 15 March.
