MINSK, 2 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (No.30 WTA ranking) won the first match of the new season, BelTA has learned. She beat Anastasia Potapova (No.93) of Russia 6-4, 7-5 in the opening game of Brisbane International to set up a match against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina (No.4) in the 1/8 finals.
Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (No.51) lost to Venus Williams (No.39) 3-6, 6-1, 3-6 in the first game of the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand on 1 January.
