MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Editor-in-chief of PolitRussia, political scientist Ruslan Ostashko shared his opinion on why Vladimir Zelensky went to the Middle East in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Commenting on why Zelensky went to the Middle East to offer his services against Iranian drones, Ruslan Ostashko said: “This is unquestionably PR. I wouldn’t say that Ukraine has nothing at all to offer on the services market in this field. But when it comes to Trump, there is no help coming. Neither Ukraine nor Zelensky are planning to help Trump.”

“Sure, the head of Germany’s Rheinmetall plant may call these drones Lego sets assembled by housewives in their kitchens. But let’s be objective: we see these ‘Lego sets’ proving quite effective. They reach their targets, they hit objects – yes, not all of them, yes, we are successfully countering them, yes, only a small number get through – but they do get through. And if they have that capability, then of course they will be selling it,” he said.

The political scientist stressed that by acting this way, Vladimir Zelensky is accomplishing several goals at once: “He is reminding people of himself, reminding them of Ukraine, reminding them that Ukraine is a good investment project worth investing in, that this country – like a private military company – is ready to offer its services on a broad market in the future.”

According to Ruslan Ostashko, Vladimir Zelensky is trying to profit from the war, both for the country and for his own benefit. “He is demonstrating to everyone that he is a skilled trader – ready to buy and to sell himself, and at a lower price than the Europeans, yet quite effectively, as practice shows,” the political analyst noted.

“In any situation, Zelensky comes out on top. For him, this conflict is a huge win. Yes, people have forgotten about him, yes, he is getting fewer weapons, but he is reminding them that he exists. The conflict has already happened. If he had had a choice – an opportunity to prevent the conflict – Zelensky would certainly have done everything to stop it, and to make sure he was the one in charge, that Ukraine was the main battlefield. But since it has already happened, he is trying to squeeze every last drop of advantage out of it. And I have to say, he is succeeding,” Ruslan Ostashko concluded.
