Way of Pakistan exhibition to open in Minsk on 13 August

MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – The Way of Pakistan exhibition timed to Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan will go in display at the University of Culture art gallery on 13 August, BelTA learned from the gallery.

The exhibition will feature paintings and photographs that will take visitors on a fascinating journey into Pakistan's nature and architectural traditions. It will also feature traditional clothing and accessories, various items of decorative and applied art that convey the national flavor and antiquity of traditions.

The works by artist Jimmy Engineer will be the central part of the exposition. His works celebrate truth and justice, compassion for people. Jimmy Engineer's paintings are in private collections in more than 60 countries around the world. The artist has held over 80 exhibitions in Pakistan and abroad, has run over 140 charitable programs for the disabled, prisoners and orphans. He has received over 100 awards and medals for his long-time and dedicated service to art and people,” the organizers said.

The exhibition will also feature works by Pakistani photographer and trekker Hamid Hussain. “He works as a guide on tours along the Silk Road. In his free time, he goes hiking in the mountains, explores new hiking trails and hidden natural valleys, makes photos of the places he travels to,” the organizers continued.

Visitors will also be able to see the works by artist and poet Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi. “He did not paint to make a living, he created masterpieces for humanity. Syed Sadequain's works are similar in complexity to a symphony, they personify the poetry of color and harmony of rhythm,” the organizers informed. The artist's paintings are kept in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, and other famous museums.

“Part of the exposition will highlight truck art - a long-standing Pakistani tradition that has already become part of the country's traditional culture. This tradition dates back to the distant past, when the only means of transporting heavy goods was an ordinary carriage drawn by horses. Today truck art can be compared to a kind of ritual for local drivers. They pay a lot of attention not to interior decoration and improvement of cars, but to its external look. In this country, truck art has become a separate art movement,” the organizers emphasized.

During the opening of the exhibition, truck art master classes will be offered by Pakistani artist Muhammad Iqbal Khan.

The culture of Pakistan is a combination of various traditions deeply rooted in the Islamic heritage, but pre-Islamic traditions add originality and a special flavor to it. The customs and traditions of Pakistan are observed by locals and passed down from generation to generation with great reverence and respect. At the same time, the fusion of many cultures allows artisans to create unique, beautiful and original items,” the gallery added.

The exhibition was organized by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the Republic of Belarus together with the University of Culture art gallery.

The exhibition will be running until 13 September.
