Volfovich explains how Belarusian armored vehicles are getting modernized

BORISOV, 4 February (BelTA) – State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich talked to reporters about how military hardware is getting modernized in Belarus, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Volfovich said: “I want to say that the USSR manufactured equipment with a large margin of safety. Our equipment was inherited from the Belarusian Military District of the Soviet Union. Some models date back to 1986 and 1988, and some are even older. But we can see how the hardware is stored. I think it will serve for another 20 years. But, for example, modernizing aircraft that are outdated is the wrong decision. This is why we are buying new Su-30SM2 aircraft that meet all international standards. As for tanks and armored infantry vehicles, they really do have a large margin of durability.”
He also pointed out that all models that needed repairs have been repaired. “Apart from that, the weapon systems on virtually all models of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles have been remodeled, refitted, and modernized. For example, T-72B tanks have been upgraded to T-72B3. Their weapon systems have been completely modernized, and modern Belarusian Sosna [pine tree] sights have been installed, which are on par with their international counterparts and are in demand abroad. This is why our T-72B3 tank is in no way inferior to its foreign counterparts,” the state secretary of the Security Council emphasized.
Aleksandr Volfovich pointed out that the armor on the equipment is made with a margin of durability and meets all requirements. “Today in addition to armor the vehicles are also equipped with protective screens, so-called ‘masks’ to counter unmanned aerial vehicles and electronic warfare systems. We also pay attention to these matters,” he concluded.
