MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - "The number of international students in Belarus can be doubled thanks to the UK professional higher and postgraduate distance learning programmes", - said the co-chairman of the international education conference "European Quality of Distance Education", CEO of Magna Carta College Oxford Business School Vadzim Tsitou told BelTA.
"In our view, Belarus can double the amount of international students from current 16,000 by involving them in distance learning courses and concurrent education. International applicants will be more willing to go to Belarus if they know that they can receive not only a Belarusian diploma, but also a British one,” said Vadzim Tsitou.
This will bring to the country more currency. For example, in the UK while the cost of education is on average ₤6,000 per year, the expenses on accommodation is ₤12,000 and grow steadily. You should also consider expenses on food, mobile communications, logistics, travelling, shopping. "This will work in Belarus in the same way but on a smaller scale,” explained Mr Tsitou.
According to the Magna Carta chief, the concurrent education system can be launched in Belarus as early as 2015. This can be implemented due to the memorandum signed between the Association of Business Executives and the Education Ministry of Belarus, that has legalized mutual recognition of disciplines and diplomas between the Association of Business Executives and the Belarusian education system. Currently around 50,000 people from 83 countries worldwide are studying ABE programmes.
As a part of the concurrent education system every student of a Belarusian university has an opportunity to be enrolled in the ABE distance learning programmes with a mutual recognition of disciplines. "This will certainly make the Belarusian education system more attractive for foreign students and will have a positive impact on the image of the country as a whole," stressed Mr Tsitou.
