Traveling chambers of Catherine II unveiled at Potemkin Palace in Krichev

MOGILEV, 3 October (BelTA) - New interior halls have been unveiled at the Potemkin Palace in Krichev, Director of the Krichev Historical Museum Vladimir Mishchenko told BelTA.

“You could say we have realized our long-cherished dream and opened two completely new interior halls, created from scratch. These are the traveling chambers of Empress Catherine II,” he explained. “One hall is a working study, and the other is living quarters. All of them are furnished with antique furniture from the 18th-19th centuries, tableware from that era, and everyday household items. In total, the two halls contain more than 100 antique items, ranging from a bed to various small details - such as fans, gloves, and ladies' jewelry. There is not a single reproduction or replica here - everything is authentic and unique.”

The museum opened in 2008. Since then, the halls have been supplemented with new exhibits and expanded, but no new halls had been created until now, the director said. “This is a very important event in the life of our palace. The new halls will help attract new visitors and tourists from Belarus, Russia, and other countries - people are already calling and asking if they are open, if they can visit,” the director emphasized. “Everyone knew that the Empress came here and stayed overnight. Everyone is interested to learn what the rooms where she stayed looked like, and how her daily life and leisure were arranged.”

Furthermore, the interior halls of the palace, namely the dining room, the clerk's office, the drawing room, and the butler's pantry, have also been replenished with new antique exhibits. "The furniture in the butler's pantry, for example, was made in modern times but styled for that era. There weren't many exhibits before. But now this hall has been filled with antique furniture and enhanced with details. One painting remains from the ‘old’ butler's pantry,” Vladimir Mishchenko said.

In total, around 150 new antique exhibits have been added to the palace.
