Belarus' Security Council joins reforestation effort in Uzda District

UZDA DISTRICT, 4 April (BelTA) – Employees of the State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus took part in the “Forest! Goodness! Order!” nationwide campaign in Uzda District on 4 April, BelTA has learned.

“Our team participates in such nationwide campaigns every year. Belarusians have a good tradition: after winter, we tidy up our homes, yards, and land. But who will put the forest in order? It is our common home. Everyone should come out and plant trees. Besides, after a workweek, it is useful to switch from a desk, documents, and sedentary intellectual work to physical activity. It is also an opportunity to spend time outdoors with family and children. We traditionally involve cadets: today, students of the Minsk Oblast Cadet School worked with us. It is important during such campaigns to teach and raise the younger generation, the future of our country. We must love our land, take care of it responsibly, work on it, and contribute to environmental security,” said State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich.
He emphasized that forests are a key element of one of the areas of national security,  environmental one. “This means they are part of our strategic national interests, an aspect of public life that affects the country, its sustainable development, and functioning,” he noted.
Aleksandr Volfovich recalled that one of the indicators of environmental security is the forest cover of the territory. “Despite severe storms every year, this indicator now exceeds 40%. This is a good result, showing that we are moving forward in this area,” he said.
On 4 April, employees of the State Secretariat of the Security Council planted around 15,000 seedlings. “For our forests, this is just a drop in the ocean. But if every work collective across Belarus plants 15,000-20,000 seedlings, we will make a significant contribution to strengthening national interests, developing environmental security, and also enjoy the physical work,” Aleksandr Volfovich stressed.
Belarus’ Forestry Minister Aleksandr Kulik noted that such campaigns have been held in Belarus for more than 20 years. “During this time, large areas have been planted with seedlings. Senior officials regularly take part in these campaigns. It is especially nice to see families planting trees together with their children. A person who has planted even one tree in their life will treat the forest, our national treasure, with care,” Aleksandr Kulik said.
