Second day on border: Refugees running out of water, food

On the morning of 8 November, a large group of migrants was seen near the Bruzgi checkpoint. They were moving towards the Belarusian-Polish border. The refugees, most of whom are Iraqi citizens, Kurds by ethnicity, made several attempts to get into the neighboring state, past the fence erected on the border by Poland. For that they were gassed. Gunshots were also heard.

"I don't understand why they don't want to let us into Poland. It is not our final destination. Germany is," one of the men said. He admitted that he has a large family, five children. Now they have nothing to eat and are running out of water.

"We do not want to return to our homeland. Things are bad there. They are different in Germany. Most importantly, we will be able to work and raise children there," another refugee pitched in. Another man emotionally asks the journalist to inform the whole European Union about what is happening on the Polish border.

Now a makeshift camp near the Polish border holds about 3,000 people. On the morning of the second day, it looks peaceful. People are foraging firewood, making fires. Children are playing around. On the Polish side, the guards are restoring the fence damaged during the assault. Seeing a journalist, people cheer up and begin to talk about problems.

"It's cold, we didn't sleep at night. How long will we be suffering? Tell them that we are not going to Poland, tell them please to let us in," one of them said.

Another man, a father of six, asked to help him with milk, diapers, and hygiene products for babies.

"We need water. Water is life," one of the refugees said.
