Russia's Defense Ministry publishes war documents about Minsk's liberation

MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) – Russia's Defense Ministry has posted declassified historical documents from its central archives in a new multimedia section on its website dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Minsk's liberation from the German fascist invaders, BelTA has learned from the website of the Russian Defense Ministry.

The documents reveal little-known episodes and tell about the heroism of the officers and soldiers of the Red Army in one of the largest and most decisive offensives of the Great Patriotic War - Bagration Operation.

Among the documents is the report from Commander of the 3rd Belarusian Front Lieutenant-General Aleksandr Pokrovsky of 3 July. He reports to the Chief of the General Staff of the Red Army Aleksandr Vasilevsky about the liberation of Minsk and gives a detailed account of the course of the operation.

The section presents the documents telling about careful preparations for the Minsk operation which enabled to liberate the Belarusian capital sooner than expected, the artillery preparation and massive air strikes on the key fortified areas and positions of the enemy troops.
