MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – The remains of 878 people who were killed in the Great Patriotic War were reburied in Belarus in 2020, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
Specialists of the 52nd search battalion handed over the remains of 600 soldiers of the Red Army, 273 war victims, and 5 resistance fighters for reburial. Information about 14,000 people who died during the Great Patriotic War was added to “The Book of Memory of the Republic of Belarus”. Thanks to the efforts to commemorate defenders of the Motherland and war victims, 49 mass graves of soldiers and 52 mass graves of war victims were added to the state register.
In 2020, the search battalion worked at 94 sites. The largest number of extracted remains were found in the village of Poloiniki in Vitebsk District (39 Red Army soldiers and 147 war victims), the Masyukovshchina neighborhood in Minsk (144 prisoners of war from the Stalag-352 concentration camp), the village of Noviki in Vitebsk District (42 Red Army soldiers), the village of Sosenka in Stolbtsy District (26 Red Army soldiers).
The names of 28 people have been established.
