Preparations for CSTO exercises proceed taking into account current situation

MOSCOW, 25 May (BelTA) – Preparations for exercises of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) proceed taking into account the military and political situation evolving in the organization's responsibility region. Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov made the statement at a session of the coordinating conference of heads of defense and security committees (commissions) of the parliaments of the CSTO member states under the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

According to Press Secretary of the CSTO Staff Vladislav Shchegrikovich, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov presented a report on this year's joint exercises involving CSTO troops (collective forces). Anatoly Sidorov noted that the current military and political situation as well as the strategic situation in the CSTO's responsibility area, directions in training command and control bodies, troops and assets of the collective security system are taken into account in the course of planning and carrying out the exercises.

Training events will begin with a joint business game under the supervision of the CSTO secretary general. Operations groups of interested ministries and government agencies of the CSTO member states and the Permanent Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization will take part in it. Proposals on political and diplomatic measures meant to resolve a crisis situation will be worked out during the first stage. The second stage will involve practicing the deployment of CSTO troops (collective forces).

Five joint (special) exercises in the Central Asia collective security region will be held as part of the strategic exercise Boyevoye Bratstvo 2021 [Combat Brotherhood] in autumn. The exercise Rubezh 2021 [Border] will be held in Kyrgyzstan. The special exercise for the CSTO logistics command Eshelon 2021 [Echelon], the special exercise for reconnaissance forces Poisk 2021 [Search], and the Vzaimodeistviye 2021 [Interaction] exercise for the CSTO collective rapid response forces will be held in Tajikistan. The exercise Nerushimoye Bratstvo 2021 [Indestructible Brotherhood] for the CSTO peacekeeping forces will be held in Russia.

Plans have been made to practice the sequential deployment of components of the CSTO collective forces starting with a joint operation to localize an armed conflict near the border and ending with the post-conflict resolution in the course of a peacemaking operation.
