More than 1,800 units of utility equipment deployed in Belarus to cope with heavy snowfall 

MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) - Overnight and early in the morning, 1,801 units of special-purpose utility equipment were operating on the country's streets, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Housing and Utilities.

The operation involved 331 sand spreaders (salt spreaders), 1,173 snowplows, 297 snow loaders and transporters, and other machinery. More than 6,920 housing and utilities personnel were working alongside the equipment.

"An additional 773 units of special-purpose equipment and over 2,110 workers from external organizations have been mobilized for the snow-clearing operation. According to operational data, utility services have cleared a total of 32,919 km of streets, 16,014 residential areas, 7,196 bus stops, 15,082 access roads to waste collection sites, 3,235 access routes to educational and healthcare institutions, and 687 bridges and overpasses,” the ministry reported.

Snow clearing is actively underway in the regions. According to the Housing and Utilities of Minsk Oblast, 1,237 workers were engaged throughout the night in eliminating the aftermath of the snow cyclone in the region. Additionally, 340 units of utility equipment were deployed, with an extra 218 units mobilized from districts across the region. An additional 2,851 km of roads, 670,000 square meters of pedestrian walkways, and 213,000 square meters of courtyard areas have been cleared.

Residents, youth, public associations, and military personnel have joined the efforts to assist utility workers. Distribution points for snow-clearing equipment were set up.
