Monument to Uzbek poet Alisher Navaiy unveiled in Minsk

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – A bust to Uzbek poet Alisher Navaiy has been unveiled during the first Forum of Regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus, BelTA reports from the solemn ceremony.

The monument was set up in the mini-park on Sverdlova Street within the area of Kirova Street – Sverdlova Street and Ulyanovskaya Street. Taking part in the ceremony were Vice Chairperson of Belarus' Council of the Republic Marianna Shchetkina, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis Sodiq Safoyev and Minsk Deputy Mayor Aleksandr Krepak.

The bust was designed by young sculptor Maksim Makarevich.

Alisher Navaiy was an outstanding poet, philosopher and statesman of the 15th century. He wrote in the Chagatai, Persian, and Turkic languages. Alisher Navaiy produced about 30 major works, including collections of poems and works on philosophy.
