Minsk to host regional forum of Universal Postal Union on 9-10 July

MINSK, 5 July (BelTA) – A regional strategic forum of the Universal Postal Union for Europe and Central Asia will take place in Minsk on 9-10 July, the press service of the Belarusian postal service company Belpochta told BelTA.

The Minsk forum is one of the six regional forums the UPU intends to arrange in 2019. The forums are supposed to help work out the union's future strategy taking into account the development of regions and individual countries, needs of postal service regulators and national postal service operators in the UPU member states.

Participants of the forum are expected to discuss the evaluation of implementation of the Istanbul World Postal Strategy, the regional component of the future Abidjan postal strategy, and priorities in the development of the postal service in the region in 2021-2024. Postal service operators will talk about the transformation of their work in the face of digital technologies.

UPU Director General Bishar Hussein, Secretary General of the Pan African Postal Union Younouss Djibrine, top officials of the association of European public postal service operators PostEurop, representatives of other agencies, and representatives of 30 European and CIS states will take part in the regional forum.

The Universal Postal Union is the main platform for cooperation between postal services in the world. Belarus became a UPU member in 1947.
