MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) - A museum quarter is set to established in the center of Minsk, BelTA learned from the Minsk City Hall.
The National Art Museum of Belarus will be transformed into a museum quarter. These are the buildings located at 25 Kirov Street, 20 and 22 Lenin Street, and 24 Karl Marx Street. Currently, the main work is underway on the administration building at 22 Lenin Street.
It has been reported that exhibition halls will be housed in the remodeled building. Guided tours will also be conducted there. This will significantly increase the area of the art museum.
“The building will retain its administrative functions,” Irina Matyas, Director General Director of the National Art Museum, said. “The first and second floors will house exhibitions and a small storage facility, which is very important for museum workers. The collections are growing, and storage space is needed. A great many useful features have been planned: offices, a lecture hall, an art studio, and space for workshops.”
Work on the main building is scheduled to begin in June.
