MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) - Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev and Russia’s Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin signed a roadmap for the development and expansion of inter‑municipal cooperatiom between Minsk and Sochi under the agreement to establish friendly ties for 2026-2028, BelTA has learned.
Minsk and Sochi have been cooperating since 2012. The new roadmap includes more than 45 items covering a wide range of aspects of urban life, from the social area to the manufacturing industry.
Andrei Proshunin noted that the cities are already actively cooperating in passenger transport. “Since Sochi is a resort city, we understand that environmental protection is a priority. We will continue purchasing electric buses. I very much hope that we will carry on this work in the future, as our residents really appreciate this,” the Sochi mayor said. He also added that Sochi is interested in Minsk’s experience in developing IT technologies, technology parks, culture, and other areas.
Vladimir Kukharev supported Andrei Proshunin’s view, stressing that in cooperation there are no unimportant topics. “Today all the areas already underway, those we have discussed, and those planned for the near or long term are very important and must be treated seriously and carefully, because they cover the key spheres of activity in any city. We see that our relations are gaining momentum, and we are mastering new directions,” he emphasized.
During his visit to Minsk, Andrei Proshunin toured Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark), the Minsk City Technopark, and the MotoVelo Plant. “The products of the MotoVelo Plant were of particular interest, with new developments and models that we will soon be supplying to our partners. In addition, in November, together with the Industry Ministry, we plan to present an electric motor developed by a ministry enterprise, which I believe will give a new impetus to the development of motorcycles and bicycles. A number of other areas were also discussed during the visit to MAZ,” Vladimir Kukharev added.
The Minsk mayor also highlighted the importance of cooperation in the youth sector. “We are keen to work with young people in many areas so that our youth can meet and communicate at various levels. This will certainly yield very good results,” he believes.
“We will continue our work and do our best to ensure that our relations with such an important partner as Sochi, with Krasnodar Territory are strengthened and become more active and dynamic,” he concluded.
